Now that the Young St mural, which cost ratepayers $15,000, is finished what do you think? I don’t love it. I wonder what the people in the property think, and how long will it last?

Like it or not, it has too many large monochrome expanses. It’ll be covered in tags within days.

Interesting to notice how the finished version appears quite different from the work in progress featured on an earlier post. It seems the globe wasn’t part of the original design. I don’t mind it, but as J says there are too many people around Fitzroy who have untreated issues about not get enough attention when they were children for it to remain pristine for long.

The playground in Carlton Gardens was badly defaced on the weekend, good to see it being repainted yesterday. How they get the damage off the screen mesh might be a problem.

I live nearby and can attest that this mural gets heaps of patronage – it is constantly being sought out, photographed and admired by people from all over the world.
