Five years ago, quite by accident, I stumbled into the Tooborac Rabbit Ramble, a rabbit cooking competition held as a fundraiser for local community causes. A variety of circumstances brought it to mind recently, and I told a few friends about it. They were highly enthusiastic so we took a drive to Tooborac last month and, for a very modest donation to the fundraiser, ate a range of amazing rabbit dishes cooked by the locals. They probably don’t want to be overwhelmed by urban foodie tourists, but there’s room for a few blowins to delight in rabbit and leek pie cooked with riesling, rabbit with mushrooms and green Thai rabbit curry. Put the third weekend of October in your calendars for next year.
