High Resolves is a not for profit, non-religious educational organisation that works with high school students. The Year 10 High Resolves team from Northcote High School have, this year, focused their attention on the Fitzroy public housing estate Atherton Gardens.

Lush and green on the surface, the sports field at Atherton Gardens was actually dangerous, with potholes, mud and loose gravel making it inadequate for use by the sporting clinics held there. The Year 10 students worked in conjunction with the local community and council to improve the standard of the field.

The team have been successful in getting the City of Yarra to commit to increased maintenance of the field by having it top dressed and fertilised more regularly, especially in spring and autumn. It will cost the City of Yarra between $5,000 and $10,000 a year to increase the standard of the field to that of many others in the community.

To celebrate the success of the project, and to connect with the Atherton Gardens residents, the team will be running a family-friendly movie night on the newly classified Atherton Gardens sporting facility on Saturday 20 October 2012. There will be a free barbeque and drinks provided.

Food and activities will be available from 5pm, and the movie, The Incredibles, will start at 6:45pm. Atherton Gardens Reserve is on Napier St Fitzroy. BYO picnic blankets and warm clothes.
