Yesterday I received this email from the state government recruiting website. I applied for this role and was informed on 8 December 2011 that I was unsuccessful. Then on 21 December I was informed the position was on hold. Now it’s been withdrawn. It’s July, 8 months later.

I have two comments. First, why are they telling me? I didn’t get shortlisted and therefore don’t need to be kept informed of subsequent developments. Second, this is indicative of the impossibly slow and incompetent government recruitment system that I have experienced many times before.

Once I interviewed for a role and, like this one, it was subsequently withdrawn. What a waste of time. I should have billed them for my time. I no longer apply for government jobs. They need to learn to treat prospective employees with basic professional courtesy.

I could not help but notice the letter came from the Victorian Government`s Solicitors Office, Department of Justice. Brian this is a letter from the sacred cow where Dickens is proclaimed as the most forward thinking entity to ever have existed.
Was the letter delivered in a carriage towed by six white snails and driven by a bloke called Humpty Dumpty?

I started a new job within a Government organisation some 3 months ago and had been looking for a new job since the previous December. I still get emails from agencies, government organisations and even some private companies to this day informing me that I was unsuccessful in my application.
These people honestly believe that if I am looking for a new career opportunity I am going to sit around and twiddle my thumbs waiting for their call.
    I feel your pain Brian

I know that recruiters are often regarded as incompetent and inefficient. There is a lot of discussion on the Whirlpool forums at the moment.
