When the Graffitti Club opened on Johnston St in 2008, I didn’t quite know what to think of it. It looked like it was deliberately designed to appear suburban and bogan, and I wondered what audience the owners were trying to attract. It soon changed its name to the Johnston Club and not long after began attracting a troublesome bogan crowd, which answered my question.

It never seemed to work and has been closed for months. The mismanagement of the club matched that of the kebab shop next door (I believe the same owner was responsible). I was walking by the other day and the windows were open to reveal that the club is being remodelled into a tiki bar.

Is this open yet? It would be nice to have somewhere to go before gigs at the Tote like I do with the Tiki Lounge in Burnley for the Corner gigs. I end up spending much more money on cocktails than I would on spirits.

The LuWOW (it’s new name) is open for a trial run Thur-Sat nights 6pmish for the next couple of weeks and then opens for real on the 21st September Wed-Sun. I ended up there two nights in a row there last week (the first night was for a quick drink.) Take lots of $$$ for cocktails although they do have credit and EFTPOS at the bar, not sure if they work yet.
