I’ve been writing Fitzroyalty for 5 years now (it started in May 2006) and last night it passed over 2 million pageviews. Almost all of this traffic has come in the last 2 years. It took me some time to define and develop my style and longer to build an audience.

I’m very appreciative that readers find what I do interesting and mostly enjoyable. I’ve made some great friends from the Melbourne blogging scene, and their company has definitely sustained me.

I don’t know how long I’ll continue to publish Fitzroyalty. There have been times when I’ve struggled with motivation and with generating sufficient content, but these times rarely last long before something new happens to inspire and motivate me.

I could simplify the site so that it only contains local Fitzroy information. And I could publish other content on other platforms, such as my creating a separate site to contain writing on social media strategy and case studies. But then there’s all the other random things I write – they would fit nowhere. One site containing whatever I feel like writing is the best solution.

Congratulations on making it to five Brian! Quite an achievement.

As far as food blogging goes, Fitzroyalty is one of the few blogs that turns up interesting things in our neighbourhood beyond the newest buzzy places – we’ve taken your recommendations more than any other non-veg focussed blogger. Keep it up!

Congratulations Brian. It’s a great milestone, but regardless of the pageviews, 5 years is a hell of a long time. Good work.

Hi Brian – well done. I really enjoy your blog – it’s great to read such wide ranging topics, especially those with unique opinions that you don’t often hear. Also love that you review all sorts of restaurants, not just the ‘hip’ ones.

    Keep it up! :-)
