The formerly shabby Tramway hotel was one of my haunts years ago, but would not have been there for 5 years. I recently learned it was being renovated and wrote a history post about it while waiting hungrily for the kitchen to open. It now looks rather smart inside; more like a smart cafe / casual restaurant in many ways. It features many de rigueur design tropes you’ll be familiar with – taxidermied animals, vintage industrial accessories, blond wood and Gigibaba style suspended lightglobes. Temasek has more details. More importantly, the gourmet burgers are excellent.

My friend chose the lamb burger while I chose the Greek – beef with oregano. Both burgers also have a slab of haloumi and are delicious. All the burgers come with yummy handcut chips and a small side serve of cabbage salad. There’s a fish burger too and a couple of vegie/vegan burgers too.

Accessibility looked reasonable with a flat entry but I did not check the toilets. On the Tuesday night I was there it was nearly full at dinner time, and given the quality of the food, the good beers on tap and charming vibe, this revitalised pub is soon going to be full to bursting.

We’ve scheduled the Tramway for our next pub club. I’m looking forward to checking out the veg options.

I’ve been meaning to come here since I saw it ages ago, looks like a bit of fun.

Now, with the promise of many burgers, I’m sure to go soon.

I had a beer there the other night, and was bemoaning the unpubly vibe. It felt more like Arcadia than a nice place to drink and jaw.

Mind you I looked with envy at the burgers on the next table, and this is a food review.

I thought the atmosphere in the Tramway was charming, and you can’t easily manufacture atmosphere.
