While walking along Sydney Rd recently with a friend, we stopped at the grocery shop on the corner of Albion St (opposite the Edinburgh Castle hotel). There’s some great varieties of pantry staples in there, including some goods described as ‘fancy’. These random coincidences make me smile.

Reminds me of walking into a greengrocer in a small QLD town and seeing two boxes of loose-leaf lettuce (one of iceburg and the other a mix of spinach, cos, rocket, and oak) – these were labelled, respectively, as “Lettuce” and “Fancy Lettuce”.

I remember seeing aisle signs directing me to “fancy goods” in a corner shop once. And the little old Greek man whispering “missy – no fancy, no good…”
