Near the top of the hill on High St in Kew is a shop full of fish – salmon from Tasmanian producer Tassal. It also stocks a range of mostly Tasmanian produce like honey. The salmon prices are surprisingly competitive – the fresh salmon fillets are cheaper than at the Queen Victoria markets.

One side of the building contains the shop (photos by the Food designer), the centre features a space used for cooking classes and other side is a cafe (photos by Clarek studio), where I had a wonderful lunch. Below is my lightly seared salmon on warm kipfler potato salad with sauce gribiche ($21).

The service was lovely and even on this relatively quiet opening week of the year the cafe was lively. The Tassal cafe is somewhere I would like to return to, and I’m sure I’ll be shopping there too.
