This is a curious and subtle expression of whimsy on Canning St in Carlton near the corner of Elgin St. On the west side the words ‘physical space’ have been placed in a bricked up window. Opposite on the east side, the words ’emotional space’ appear in the same typeface between two windows. It’s been there for some time and I’ve seen no one write about it. Has anyone else even noticed?

physical the space between us

emotional the space between us

the space between us

I’ve seen Physical Space as I’ve driven up Elgin St, and wondered…and then forgotten. Hadn’t seen Emotional Space but I hope someone can enlighten us as to their meaning.

There’s a similar piece of text work on the wall of the NGV facing the Recital Centre / MTC theatre. A fire hose box has something like “IT WILL BE OK” in red text on it; I’m sure I’ve got the phrase wrong, but you could go look. I wonder if it’s the same person?
