Back in 2006 I stated that I was planning to eat at every Japanese restaurant in Fitzroy. I thought I only had Kazen to try to complete this mission when I discovered that it had unexpectedly closed. Since I began, Ume Nomiya on Gertrude St has closed, I’ve eaten at Peko Peko and Cocoro on Smith St and at Akari and Yume on Brunswick St, as well as Happy Kappa (which has also since closed). Until another Japanese restaurant opens I suppose I have completed this mission, albeit not the way I was expecting to.

That’s a pity – they were a decent Japanese restaurant – better than Akari I think…. although I heard they changed owners recently and the quality had fallen.

I used to love Kazen when the owner/chef was the Japanese guy who had also trained in Italian food. However, I had the unfortunate experience of eating there more recently Bad, bad, bad!
