A tweet alerted me to the fact that a new spice shop had opened on Lygon St last week. Called Gewurzhaus, which apparently means ‘spice shop’ in German, it sells a huge range of spices and spice mixes and flavoured sugars and salts. Dandelion wishes has photos of the inside, and I had a peek in last night on my way home from work. If media about food is called food porn, then this is no ordinary shop – it’s a food brothel.

“Food brothel” will be how I describe this place to people from now on. It is *awesome*. Not only do they have the usual mix of spices and herbs for sale, but they have pre-mixed spice concoctions. Think: chinese five spice, chillie con carne, curry powders, chai.

Not to mention that its worth going in to for the smell alone.
