The copy from the following post is taken from the Fitzroy Learning Network news page. The No Worries Festival is on this Saturday 19 June 2010, 10.00 am -2.00 pm. Please join us to celebrate sport, music and cultural diversity at this free community event.
The No Worries Festival at the Atherton Gardens oval on Napier St, Fitzroy will be a vibrant, eclectic mix of music, soccer, information and food for local youth & community members.
The No Worries Festival will host the launch of the No Worries CD and service directory which is a compilation of Australian-based international artists. The CD booklet doubles as a service directory with information about service providers in the local community.
The Emerging Leaders youth advisory group is made up of local young people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds who are identified representatives of the youth of their communities.
These young leaders are supported by a partnership between the Ecumenical Migration Centre of the Brotherhood of St Laurence and the Fitzroy Learning Network.
The Youth Advisory group identified a need for young people in the community to get support and assistance and connect them to the many service providers. They identified that music and sport the most dynamic ways to engage youth. So the No Worries Festival was born.
The Ecumenical Migration Centre (EMC) and the Fitzroy Learning Network (FLN) have worked in partnership with the youth advisory group to plan the event.
This team of young people have recruited performers and created a CD that includes music and the information of service providers. Other young people are busy getting soccer teams together for a tournament for the event. Through this process the youth advisory group is learning skills in event planning and preparation and community mobilization.
Have a sneak peek of the CD compilation on producer and youth advisory group member Lochie’s website.
