Men’s fashion shop Urban Native barely lasted 6 months on Smith St. Now the space is occupied by the Social Studio, a non-profit organisation offering education and training to refugees in clothing design, manufacturing and retail.

Jesus christ government grants must be pretty good these days if they can pay the rent on Smith Street.

I have no evidence that they are receiving government funding.

Thanks for the mention! We are hoping to have quite a dynamic studio space with regular public design talks/workshops and lots of community interaction. Currently seeking donations of garments/fabric/sewing materials/equipment for the set-up of the studio. And for the record, we have no government funding!

Thanks Grace for the comment! When I read your flyer in the window my impression was that you were running with a community model with no mention of government funding. The other commenter made that comment without any evidence.

I am inspired by the work that I believe Grace has done, and the people who believe in the project (and her) enough to donate their time and materials. This is no mean feat, and with no personal tangible gain to the organisers.
The benefits of meaningful occupation are multi-facetted on anyone, never mind people who have suffered terribly so much so that they leave their homeland, culture and often families in an attempt to build a future; and hope.
Thank you Grace for contributing to make Australia a welcoming and loving place where people can contribute to their, and the communities future.
