Despite years of protest about its excessive size and ugly design, construction of the cheesegrater building on the block covering Young, Kerr, Argyle and Napier streets has begun. They’re now called the Artist apartments. In this 2004 article the high price and design of the proposed apartments are discussed as the problems causing slow off the plan sales. This 2007 article shows the old and new designs side by side. The new design is as crap as the old one. The Yarra City Council acted on hundreds of resident objections and consistently opposed the development, but was overruled by the state government. I wonder how the current economic conditions are affecting sales and the viability of the project?
