Just back from 6 days in Auckland. Much to say over coming days. Breakfast was at the fun and sassy Strawberry Alarmclock on Parnell Rd. Quality coffee and pretty good eggs. Great colours inside – the walls are covered with the words for ‘no smoking’ in many languages.
It is cosy, busy and casual. Not your ‘ladies who lunch’ kind of place. One young woman came in suffering the very Fitzroy condition I call ‘seasonal dysmorphia’ – she was wearing thongs on her feet and a thick scarf around her neck. Surely if it’s cold enough for a scarf, it’s too cold for thongs, and if it’s warm enough for thongs surely it’s too warm for a scarf. But what do I know? I’m more interested in style than fashion.
