Yesterday I went to see the new David Laity exhibition at Metro 5 Gallery in Armadale. His paintings of women have a pop art consistency across different exhibitions yet they appear fresh each time, and the debate about sex, gender and representation repeats itself each time he exhibits.

Some of his previous work can be seen here. Not knowing what Laity looks like, we played an amusing game of ‘spot the artist’ from among the crowd. It’s surprising how often you realise that the artist is not the most eccentric or weirdly dressed person in the room. The audience are the true freaks.

As usual at Metro 5 the exhibition was well attended, the jazz band was mellow and the bubbly and nibbles were first class. If only I had a spare $13,000 to buy the painting I liked…
