Picture this: you’re on holiday in sunny Perth enjoying a couple of days catching up with friends. You’re staying at the Ocean Beach Hotel across the road from North Cottesloe Beach and fall asleep listening to the waves breaking on the sand.
While sitting above the beach watching the sun set over the Indian ocean on December 6 you’re buzzed by a RAAF Hercules at a height of about 200 metres. It’s coming from the south, dipping low from Fremantle and swinging left and right to hug the coastline north to Cottesloe and Swanbourne (where the SAS barracks are) and on to Trigg and Scarborough. It is fast, loud and exciting, but it also spoils the relaxed mood you had moments before.
