On Sunday I visited Bress winery in Harcourt to partake in a roast pork lunch served on long tables in the winery tank shed. Entree was corn fritters, salad of grilled zucchini, anchovies, cheese and tomatoes and lamb ribs with mashed potato, followed by the roast pork with lots of crackling, roast carrots and beetroots, green salad (not photographed) and quinoa salad and, for dessert, meringue with strawberries, rhubarb sauce and chocolate sauce.…

I must begin this post by apologising to the charming father and son team who run Bottega Tasca on Lygon St, which is my favourite wine shop within walking distance. Upstairs above l’Osteria and Woodstock, on the corner of Nicholson and Reid streets in North Fitzroy, what was long ago an illegal gambling venue is now one of the most popular restaurants in the inner north.
