A new mural was painted on the laneway wall behind the Evelyn hotel off Kerr St (about halfway between Brunswick and Fitzroy streets). It features the image and story of missing Victorian teenager Donny Govan.
The mural is one of many being created by a project called The Unmissables, which connects the families of missing people with artists willing to paint murals of them. The aim is to raise awareness of the issue of missing people and also to give the family of the missing person a place to think of and remember them. The project recently received coverage by the ABC and the Age.
The project has been developed by the Missing Persons Advocacy Network. The Unmissables website indicates that there are many families looking for an artist to volunteer. If you’re an artist looking for a wall and a project, this is a great opportunity.
