This is a rare example of a business owner cleverly identifying an opportunity and putting the right restaurant in the right place. Yes, you can already get dumplings on Brunswick St at China Bar, but it’s not their specialty.

All too often openings on Brunswick St soon turn into closures as the wrong thing has been installed in the wrong place. Dumplings are delicious, popular, inexpensive and thus affordable for the young. Assuming the food will be good, this is a recipe for business success. Dumplings are infinitely better than burgers.

Alongside the sign in the window of the soon to open Tora Dumplings (where Roadhouse burgers was briefly) is a review for Shanghai Street Dumplings on Little Bourke St, which suggests this business is owned by the same operator. Their dumplings are amongst the best the city, so this is a very good thing. Sorry Bowl Bowl on Smith St. I may not be motivated to visit you so often.

FYI, this is open tonight (12 May) and has what seems to be a good luck flower arrangement in the front of the store.

I went here for dinner tonight…very disappointed, definitely not Melbourne’s best.

I was there for lunch on Friday, and while I only had dumplings I thought they weren’t bad.
