Over the new year period it looked like De Clieu cafe on Gertrude St had closed. But it has reopened with a sign in the window stating ‘original management has returned’. Sounds like a coup was averted.

I didn’t notice that it ever closed over the new year. I know it had Asian owners when we visited, that may now have changed. I remember our last visit, must have been Boxing Day because Mario came in for a coffee when we had just finished our breakfast, I am talking about Mario of Marios cafe fame in Brunswick Street. I said you are in the wrong cafe, he said he lives next door and needs a coffee now before he headed off to work! Fair enough.

Weird it says they’re using market lane coffee when they were originally opened by people from seven seeds coffee/brother bada buban (which is still going strong) so maybe its not the original original management, but another interim lot?

And sadly whoever owns it the coffee is not good.
I go to Market Lane on Faraday St which is great. They only do coffee, not even a dry biscuit, and they know their trade.
