After trading for about 4 years it looks like Argos Loves Company on Brunswick St is closing. I’ve been a couple of times but didn’t review it. The southern end of Brunswick St has Martha Ray’s and Slowpoke, and to compete with both of these must have been tough.

Argos was a great cafe in its original iteration. It was really the first more up market venue to venture to that part of the street and I suspect it paved a way for the excellent Slow Poke and others. The original owner sold about 6 months or so ago and … well …. you know the rest. No surprise it’s shut, but am sorry to see it go. I loved the giant photo of the dog on the rear wall. The place had style.

The reason it closed was that the original owner underpaid all her staff and declared bankruptcy so she wouldn’t have to back pay all her staff. The landlord took bought her out and was planning on selling all along as he had other businesses to take care of. Apparently the original owner mismanaged her money and was a horrible person.
