Oh dear. This terrible signage and branding for a new place on Gertrude St called Harry Monty suggests this place will be a failure before it even opens. Harry Monty was apparently an American dwarf actor and stuntman. This is opening in the space of the former Rickshaw, which I doubted would reopen. It only lasted about 18 months after replacing Tandoori Times. So, more Americana, burgers, etc?

The rickshaw was decent food. It lost its appeal after the change in menu to indian. Have not had the food at harry monte, but its the only one of two places on gertrude st that makes a good coffee – the other being cnr smith st (forgot the name). The other places on gertrude have good food but their coffee is poor. Harry monte looks very uncool for a “cool” st, but i like good coffee over “cool”. You may however prefer to look “cool” rather than drink decent coffee.
