The Mughal Indian is another relatively recent Johnston St closure. I’m interested in how the popularity of different cuisines changes over time. With the closure of the nearby Fitzroy Curry House and that of Tandoori Times on Gertrude St and Bangla on Brunswick St, there’s now significantly less Indian food available in Fitzroy (there’s still Fitz Curry on the west end of Johnston St and several in Collingwood).

Japanese seems to be the current trend on Smith St and around Collingwood, with the opening of Hanani Sushi, Shop Ramen and Bistro K (Korean) on Smith St recently, and Teriyaki Anarchy Sake, Momo Sushi, Aka Siro, Mina No Ie and Pabu all opening within the past year or so.

A large “TACO” sign has just gone up in the window of this place, presumably taking advantage of the recent revival of Mexican fare. They’re creating a servery out the back, into the open area that Juddy Roller’s been using. I’ve no idea when it’ll open, but it looks as though they’re trying to finish soonish.
