The video game themed Mana bar on Brunswick St, which opened two years ago, appears to be closing down because the premises are being advertised for lease. Not quite right for Fitzroy, I think. Better suited to a suburban shopping centre. Their initial spam marketing grated on me and their web domain now forwards to their Facebook page, which could be interpreted as a digital sign of impending collapse (tellingly it only mentions their original Brisbane location).

Interesting. It always seemed to have a number of people in there. But maybe it was hard to make money from gamers who are busy playing video games and not wanting to drink?

The story was discussed on various fora for gamers and Reddit, and what I read suggested that gamers did not care for fancy overpriced drinks – they just wanted to play games and have a beer. The small size of the venue also appears to be a significant issue.

Or maybe the owner won the lottery and decided to shut the doors.

Ok, I stand corrected. However, the reason Mana gives is that the size of the venue and the closing times as dictated by their licence conditions are restrictive. So I am not too sure if the views expressed in various forums about overpriced drinks (as Brian mentioned) are indicative of a widely held perception amongst Mana’s customer base.
