The British Museum is a wonderful institution to visit. Apart from the unnecessarily self-justifying text explaining the Elgin marbles (yes, in hindsight Elgin probably did save and preserve them, but it is perhaps time to give them back) the exhibits are fascinating. I’m particularly curious about how the body is repesented in different cultures, so I focused my attention on busts, masks, statues and reliefs. The ancient Assyrian series of reliefs narrating the sport of lion hunting are stunning. So too is this Assyrian’s manbag (top). Below are some of the many faces in the museum. My favourite piece of all is of two Etruscan women (second from top).

    Assyrian man-bag … hilarious!
And the eyes on the turquoise chinese man are intensely spooky.
