What were they thinking? Perhaps ‘let’s combine the ugliest features from a supermarket and a hospital emergency department to systematically remove all traces of ambiance, comfort, aesthetics and context’. The recent makeover of the Spanish Club is hideous.

Horrible!! I was there during the Spanish fiesta and it basically felt like a bad rsl makeover.

Saying that, having travelled extensivly through Spain, it is not that unusal! It actually looks pretty authentic as far as a Spanish bar, not the type you picture in Barcelona or Madrid, but the type you will find in most towns

anyway, back to the point, it is hideous!!

Have they done anything to the hall? Haven’t checked it out yet.

hideous!! Have they done anything to the hall or function rooms?? Haven’t had a chance to check them out

Bad RSL makeover – that is the exact definition! I have not been inside to see if the band room or anything else has been changed.

Looks like Chaddy. S’pose it’ll attract tourists from the suburbs, who think they are very adventurous by coming to Fitzroy

the decision makers are out of touch or the club as a whole is. its been changed a few times in recent years…hold on there may be another one brewing as they get feedback!! their track record sugests it owuld be another ‘surprise’…its the live music i care most about. the mix of aesthetics reflects different demographics who call fitzroy home, not just the cool yuppies. is it a community run estbalishment? i’ll be more interested in noting that of late, nothing much has happened there for the public to enjoy live latin/spanish etc acts. i hope that they pull people in and soften the new seats and grundge up the floor.

Holy Shit!! whoever was incharge of proceedings needs “un par de hostias”.

The previous set up was crap but this one neither has or resembles anything “Spanish”. Piss off this wanting to embrace the world and return it back to what it was meant to be “un Hogar Espanol”. It is obvious that the new generation now running the commitee have lost the plot.
haven’t tried the food but if it anything like the decor “prefiero comer mierda”

I totally agree with Antonio, bring back el Hogar Espanol and dont let others run the club for us, as it is now the new owners who ever they are but I can tell you there not spanish at all, i was there for the street fiesta trying to get in the club was a nighmare strangers at the door would not let you in and then they say all welcome well my people not true i tried to get in twice and twice the knocked me back we had to be lebonnese or you wouldnt get in. they have forgotten there spanish people. the committee at the club le tendria que dar VERGUENZA not letting there people (spanish) in if you can’t afford to run it well my dear’s sell but don’t have strangers running the club just because you need the money and think more of the spanish community which Egoistas.
