Over the next week I’ll be posting a food review every day as I clear a backlog of fabulous eating experiences over the Easter long weekend. One of the pleasures of taking visiting family members to places in Fitzroy is to see their genuine surprise and delight in things we residents take for granted. If you’re a regular at the Rose St markets, of course Mr Bucket tshirts come packaged in faux gourmet icecream containers. For some people, going out for breakfast is in itself novel.

When (note not if) you go out for breakfast, of course you will have baked eggs. One of the best places to have baked eggs is at Min Lokal. The dish below includes feta, cherry tomatoes and pesto. Having had every variation already, I’m able to indulge my sweet tooth and order the waffles with poached pear and maple walnuts with cream (above). Heavenly.

Mmmm, it seems the waffles have got even better since I tried them! There was too little fruit with mine, but that half-pear looks just right.

It was perfectly poached – tender yet firm enough to stand upright. The nuts are yummy too!
