On Friday night I went to see Alatriste, which is part of the La Mirada Spanish Film Festival at ACMI. It’s a powerful but overly long historical drama. I was keen to attend something at this festival, curated by Pedro Almodovar, and this film starring the divine Ariadna Gil (who is also in Pan’s Labyrinth) seemed one of the better offerings.
Before the film, I had dinner for the first time at the ACMI cafe, and I enjoyed it. It was quieter than many other places in Federation Square, and perhaps is still new or not as fashionable, but the interior is fascinating and they make a good strong coffee.
